7 TIMES

Recently, a 13 year old has been shot for being wrongly accused of possessing an armed gun. His only mistake was that when the officers alerted him and told him to put the toy gun down, he failed to follow directions, resulting in the death of a young boy. But the interesting fact is that he was shot a repeatedly 7 times. Now was this really necessary? Of course not, after the second shot he would have for sure been dead.

Erica's essay connected with the audience through pathos. She really got a hold on our hearts and targeted our emotions, which is a very powerful and moving way to catch a readers’ attention. This persuasive technique can be very effective in many cases. I admired her use of repetition at the end of her essay because it was definitely one of the items that caught most of my attention.

Javier’s essay focused on evaluating both aspects of the stories and analyzing the reasons as to why both routes could have been taken, regardless of his point of view. He definitely focused on more factual evidence rather than writing an opinion-based article. It was short and straight to the point.

Both essays about the crime make it very clear that shooting the boy 7 times was not necessary and completely devastating.
